Director's Welcome

The Division of Infectious Diseases at Wayne State University / Detroit Medical Center was established over 25 years ago and has trained over 80 fellows. We have the largest training program in the state, accepting 4 fellows each year into a two-year program. We offer a comprehensive training program with broad clinical experience in a variety of settings, including a regional county hospital, a university hospital, a dedicated cancer center, a VA medical center, a women's hospital, and a rehabilitation center. The outpatient clinic manages over 2000 HIV + patients. In addition, we also offer an Infection Control fellowship (1 year) and a Transplant Infectious Disease fellowship (1 year) after completing the general I.D. fellowship.

The fellowship consists of 12 months of inpatient service and 12 months of research, with a half-day continuity clinic per week during the fellowship. Although this is an adult Infectious Disease program, there is an option of rounding for 1 month on the Pediatric Infectious Diseases service at the Children's Hospital of Michigan for those that are interested.

Our faculty are dedicated to excellence in clinical care, teaching, and research. There is strong commitment to teaching fellows on the inpatient services as well as in the clinic. Faculty research interests include HIV, Hepatitis C, mycology, Gram positive bacteria (MRSA, VRE), transplant associated infections, and general infectious diseases.

Our goal is to provide fellows with comprehensive training in clinical infectious diseases, opportunities for teaching, and experience in conducting research so that they may be successful in pursuing any career path after fellowship. We strive to tailor the program to fit their needs as they develop into excellent clinicians.
